Background
The Beirut Ethics Colloquium is made up of a group of academics and professionals who have been meeting regularly since 2011, to discuss and debate our personal and societal responsibilities to live ethically with one another.
The Colloquium decided in its summer 2016 chapter, to engage in initiatives and actions to promote Ethics at the High School level. The CNDJ CINE-SAT program was established to foster meaningful ethical debates and discussions, while helping students practice on essays in the same format required for American Universities’ applications.
For the school years 2016-17 and 2017-18, the Colloquium has organized events at the Collège Notre- Dame de Jamhour which resulted in awards to the following students :

Program
This school year 2018-19, BEC we will offer one Fall and one Spring session where students (and their parents) can join a screening of a film that addresses an ethical dilemma and then submit a college style essay (max 500 words). The essays are submitted as numbered entrees and a panel of 3 reviewers decides on the best written essay. The winner receives a $500 scholarship paid directly to the Collège Notre-Dame de Jamhour and an award letter which can be used as part of college application packages.

Sample Questions: Write a story about a character you found interesting or unique. For example, tell us a story about a person who was not what they seemed to be, a person who had to make a difficult decision or a person who made a difference in the world at a great cost to themselves. Communicate through your own perspective why this person is so interesting to you. (500-word limit).
