Christiane Ferran, professor at Harvard Medical School from Lebanese origin, has been chosen for the first Avicenna Award in Medical Sciences 2015 at Harvard Arab Weekend 2015.

The Avicenna Award in Medical Sciences is an honorary award that gives recognition to exceptional and innovative achievements of senior Arab/Arab-American scientists and/or physicians in the field of medicine or life sciences, in particular those contributing to scientific developments in medicine.



Christiane Ferran has been chosen for this award by virtue of:

  • Her outstanding achievements in identifying the role of the molecule A20 in liver regeneration and repair, vascular diseases, diabetes, organ transplantation, cancer, and eye diseases.
  • Her leadership record at Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School.


The inaugural Avicenna Award in Medical Sciences 2015 will be celebrated on Friday, November 6th at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The reception will serve as a dynamic networking platform for senior Arab-American/Arab scientists and physicians in the academic, medical, educational, and biotechnological fields. It will be a unique opportunity to form academic collaborations between Harvard and universities in the Arab World, as well as a means to showcase innovative projects that are underway in the Middle East and North Africa.
